Maintenance and Upgrades Planned Over Winter Break

Winter break is one of the busiest times of the year for IT.  We use this time to do maintenance, upgrades and cleanup on services, servers and other back end equipment.  We wait until the breaks in order to minimize the impact to the campus during the semester.  In the coming weeks we will be providing updates on specific maintenance and upgrades that may intermittently take services offline during the break.  

Upgrade Your Computer Over Winter Break

If you are interested in upgrading to either Windows 8 for PC's or Mountain Lion (10.8) for Mac's, winter break is a great time to have your computer upgraded.  For more information about upgrades or to schedule a time just give us a call at 255-3536 or email us  at helpdesk@uccs.edu  

Microsoft Office 2013 Coming Soon

In addition to Windows 8 Microsoft will soon be releasing Office 2013 for PC's.  We have been testing the new version of Office for over a month now and will still continue to test.  We plan on making this available to the campus for testing before the start of the Spring 2013 semester.  Just a quick reminder, all computer labs and podiums on campus will remain on Office 2010 for the Spring 2013 Semester.

Software Update Notes:

• Microsoft December Updates - Please make sure you save your work before you head home tonight (12/11). The updates may cause your computer to reboot.
• Mac December Updates - Be sure to update your Mac, click on the Apple icon in the top left corner and click on Software Update... be sure to install all updates.
• Adobe December Updates - Be sure to update your Adobe products (12/11).  There are some critical patches to Flash that affect Windows, OSX and Linux that need to be installed.
• Latest Firefox version: 17.0.1
• Latest Google Chrome Version: 23.0.1271.97
• Latest Java Version for Windows: 7 update 9 or 6 update 37
