All UCCS students are required to obtain international health/travel insurance for the period of time they are participating on education abroad. Most traditional health insurance plans do not provide sufficient internationla travel insurance.

  • UCCS third-party affiliate programs provide international health insurance. It is important to review the provisions of the provide policy before departure to determine if you need to purchase additional coverage.
  • Exchange, Direct Enrollment, & Faculty-Directed programs many not include coversage. YOu will need to inquire and ensure you have adequate coverage.
  • Additional insurance is advised if you plans include high risk activities such as sky diving, scuba diving, mountain climbing, or destinations with Center for Disease Control Alerts.

The below policies have been reviewed by UCCS Staff, but the university does not endorse any specific policy:

International SOS provides worldwide assistance and emergency evacuation services for UCCS education abroad participants. UCCS students are automatically covered and receive registration information at the pre-departure orientation.

The services provided by International SOS range from telephone advice and referrals to evacuation by private air ambulance. You will have access to country-specific information on the International SOS website, including recommended vaccinations, weather and road conditions, telephone and voltage information, and more. It is important to understand that although International SOS will offer students travel and medical advice and services, as well as cover the costs of the medical evacuation and repatriation, International SOS is NOT travel or medical insurance. If you visit a doctor's office or have to be admitted to a hospital, International SOS will not cover these services.
