Family Medical Leave is a form of job protection that runs concurrently with all applicable forms of paid and unpaid leave. Family Medical Leave may be taken by eligible employees for the following medical reasons:
A classified staff employee is eligible to take up to 13 weeks (520 hours) of FML leave in a fiscal year, so long as that employee has one year of total state service as of the date leave will begin. This amount is prorated for part-time employees. Specific forms must be completed by both the employee and the department for FML leave to be granted.
Exempt Professionals, 9 and 12 Month Faculty and Research Faculty:Exempt Professionals, 9 and 12 Month Faculty and Research Faculty may take up to 12 weeks (generally 480 hours) of FML during a 12 month period, so long as they have been employed by the University for at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours during the most recent 12 month period. Specific forms must be completed by both the employee and the department for FML to be granted.
