Resources VPN for Windows XP

UPDATE: Microsoft has discontinued support for Windows XP in July 2011. As such, the IT Department is no longer providing support as well. However, these help sheets will be available for anyone still using it.

SUMMARY: This document will walk you through the necessary steps to set up the UCCS Resources VPN (Voyager) connection in Windows XP. The Resources VPN (Voyager) connection is used to access the UCCS Servers (i.e. Excelsior, Enterprise, Columbia, etc.) as well as other additional resources.

NOTE: This VPN does NOT allow the user to access the periodical databases on the UCCS Library website. You must use the Library VPN (Transporter).

1. Click on the Start button and select Control Panel. Click on Network and Internet Connections.
   

1. Click on Create a connection to the network at your workplace.
   

1. This opens the New Connection Wizard. Click on Virtual Private Network connection and click the Next button.
   

1. Type UCCS Resources VPN (Voyager) in the box and click the Next button.
   

1. If you have a dial-up configuration on your computer, this screen should appear next. If you have broadband, click on Do not dial the initial connection.
   

1. Otherwise make sure the correct dial-up connection is shown in the box. Click the down-arrow to select a different dial-up connection. Click the Next button.
   

1. Type voyager.uccs.edu in the box and click the Next button.
   

1. Select the appropriate choice and click the Next button. Click the Finish button.
   

1. Click on the Start button, go to Connect to and select UCCS Resources VPN (Voyager).
   

1. Click the Properties button.
   

1. Click the Options tab. Click to place a check mark to the left of Include Windows logon domain.
   

1. Click the Networking tab. With Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) highlighted, click the Properties button.
   

1. Click the Advanced button.
   

1. Click to remove the check mark in the box marked Use default gateway on remote network.
   

1. Click the DNS tab. Type uccs.edu in the box labeled DNS suffix for this connection and click to add checkmarks to both boxes below. Click the OK button.
   

1. To use VPN, click on the Start button, go to Connect to and select UCCS Resources VPN (Voyager).
   

1. Type your IT username and password in their respective boxes. For the box labeled Domain, type UFP and click the Connect button. If you have dial-up, you may have to enter the dial-up username and password on another window that pops up.
   

1. To access the IT accounts, click on the Start button and select Run.... Type in \\excelsior.uccs.edu for student accounts or \\enterprise.uccs.edu for staff/faculty accounts. Click the OK button.

1. When you're finished, click on the Start button, go to Connect to, and select UCCS Resources VPN (Voyager). Click the Disconnect button.
