Resources VPN for OSX 10.5/10.6

The IT Help Desk recommends you use the VPN Automatic Install tool for setting up the VPN.

SUMMARY: This document will walk you through the necessary steps to set up the UCCS Resources VPN (Voyager) connection in Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6. The Resources VPN (Voyager) connection is used to access the UCCS Servers (i.e. Excelsior, Enterprise, Columbia, etc.) as well as other additional resources.



    1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left and then select System Preferences…

    1. Double-click the Network icon.

    1. Click the + sign in the bottom left.

    1. Click on the arrow to the right of Interface and select VPN. For VPN Type use the drag down arrow to select PPTP. Type UCCS Resources VPN in the Service Name field. Click Create.

    1. Click the Configuration drop-down box and select Add Configuration...

    1. Enter UCCS Resources VPN (Voyager) and click Create.

    1. In the Server Address field enter voyager.uccs.edu. In the Account Name field, type your student e-mail address (username@uccs.edu). Make sure Encryption is set to Automatic (128 bit or 40 bit). Click Authentication Settings.

    1. Type in your IT password and click OK.

    1. Click the Advanced... button in the lower right.

    1. On the Options tab, make sure the Send all traffic over VPN Connection is NOT selected.

    1. Click the DNS tab. Click the + button under Search Domains and add uccs.edu. Click OK.

    1. Click the Connect button and enter your IT password if prompted.

    1. Verify the connection is established by looking for Connected under the Status entry.

    1. Click on your desktop, click the Go menu, and select Connect to Server...

    1. Enter cifs://enterprise2.uccs.edu:139/users$ in the Server Address field and click the + button to the right.
      Now enter cifs://excelsior2.uccs.edu:139/students$ in the Server Address field and click the + button.

    1. Double-click the enterprise entry for staff and faculty folders. Or double-click the excelsior entry for student folders.

    1. Enter username followed by your password.

    1. Open Finder by double-clicking a hard drive icon.

      NOTE: Please make sure you pay attention to the pictures and explanations below.



    1. For staff and faculty folders: Look in the left column under SHARED for enterprise.uccs.edu. When accessing Enterprise, always go through the Users$ entry.
      To find a staff or faculty folder, you need to know the username.

    1. For student folders: Look in the left column under SHARED for excelsior.uccs.edu. When accessing Excelsior, always go through the Students$ entry. Student folders are organized under the first initial and then username.

    1. Disconnect from Enterprise and Excelsior by clicking the small eject icon to the right of each name.

  1. When you are finished, open System Preferences and Network (steps 1 and 2). Select the VPN entry and click Disconnect.
