Library VPN for Linux

SUMMARY: This document will walk you through the necessary steps to set up the UCCS Library VPN connection in Linux. The Library VPN connection is used to access the Kraemer Family Library journal database as well as other additional resources.

NOTE: This help sheet is provided for the convenience of our Linux users. We do not have a Linux computer at the IT Help Desk and cannot provide support.

Configuring the VPN

1. Install the PPTP client. There are installation instructions for most common distributions at
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/documentation.phtml
. Once downloaded, run pptpconfig as root.
2. On the
Server
tab, enter the information as shown below, substituting your
IT username
and
password
.
3. On the
Routing
tab, click
All to Tunnel
.
4. On the
DNS
tab, check
Automatic
and enter
search uccs.edu
for
Options
.
5. On the
Encryption
tab, check
Require Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption...
6. On the
Miscellaneous
tab, check
Reconnect if disconnected
.
7. Click the
Update
button to save the configuration.

8. Double-click the new profile to start the connection.

Connecting to the Library

9. To access the Library databases, start your preferred internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.). Go to
http://www.uccs.edu/library
. From here you can search the journal database.

10. Click the
Stop
button when you're finished.

Open a web browser and go to www.uccs.edu/library. From here you can search the databases or journals.
