Jarod Charzewski explores Western consumer culture and environmental issues in SCARP PROJECT 2012, a monumental site-specific installation. SCARP references a geologic term--escarpment--a land-form cut away to reveal the layers of soil and rock within. In residence for one week, Charzewski will transform over 3,000 articles of donated clothing into a visually stunning and immersive experience, filling every room of GOCA121.
Charzewski installed a similar project in 2008 at the Halsey Institute for Contemporary Art; this iteration uses similar materials (donated clothing, wood and cardboard). jarodcharzewski.com
GOCA has partnered with the Office of Student Activites to collect items from the campus community--over 3,000 articles of clothing were collected! After the exhibition, all items will be donated to needy UCCS families and local non-profits at the start of the Fall semester.
