Heading: Benefits of Becoming a UCCS Peer Mentor

  • Mentors have the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience that they have gained while at UCCS.
  • Mentors have the opportunity to facilitate the mentee's personal and professional growth.
  • Mentors gain valuable academic coaching and leadership skills.
  • Mentors work with individuals with different backgrounds and personality types.
  • Mentors gain personal satisfaction of contributing to a student's development.
  • Mentors have the opportunity to be able to inspire someone to do great things in their future endeavors.

Heading: How to Become a UCCS Peer Mentor

  • Complete and submit a Peer Mentor Club Participation form (see below).
  • Serve as an academic and social role model.
  • Have a 3.00 GPA for two consecutive semesters as a full-time UCCS student and maintain a 3.0 GPA once becoming a peer mentor.
  • Sign up for and complete a peer mentor training.
  • Earn 18 points a semester to maintain active status in the club. (Members of the club earn 1 point for every meeting they attend, 3 points for every monthly check-in email they respond to, and 1 point for each hour of club activities they volunteer for and participate in.)
  • Maintain consistent contact with peers (mentees) throughout the academic year.
  • Abide by the policies/expectations set forth in the club constitution.

Heading: What is the time commitment?

It is ideal for mentors/peers to meet in person at least twice a month. When not able to meet in person, email and phone contact are acceptable. The time commitment is based on the availability of the mentor as well as the needs tof the peer. Peer Mentors must remain active in the club by attending one meeting a month and helping out with various club activities.
