Audacity:

Audacity is a a free program for both Windows and Mac systems for recording and editing audio. Files created in Audacity may be posted on a website, inserted into Powerpoint or Keynote, or used to record an audio podcast. By connecting a tape recorder into the microphone port of your computer, you can transfer audio files from an analog to digital format.If you need help learning how to use it, Audacity has released some good begginer tutorials on their website, found here. Garageband:

This is an application in Apple's iLife package that allows you to create and record music and other audio clips. With Garageband you will also have the ability to record audio from a microphone much like audacity.

Screen Capture Software:

Camtasia:

Camtasia Studio is an efficient program that allows you to record exactly what is happening on their screen and simultaneously capturing audio. This is a very convienent tool for recording voiceover powerpoint presentations for training and creating podcasts. The Audacity tutorial on this page was created using Camtasia.

We have a recording workstation with Camtasia installed on a PC (there is also a version for Macs) with headsets or a desktop mic for creating screen capture movies.  Thse can be uploaded to the Mediasite streaming server and linked to your Blackboard course.  Techsmith, the creator of Camtasia, has numerous tutorials on their website at http://www.techsmith.com/learn/camtasia/default.asp. The academic pricing for the Wiondows version is cabout $180 and the Mac version is $100.  There is no campus license for Camtasia.

Screenflow:

Screenflow is a screen recording program for Mac only that allows you to record exactly what is happening on the computer screen and simultaneously capture audio. Microsoft Office 2011:

Microsoft office is full of tools made to help you accomplish just about anything you could imagine. However, if you have little experience using Office, it can be quite confusing. Luckily, Microsoft has realeased many in-depth guides for every program in the Office suite. Respondus:

Respondus is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard. Here is a link to their website with a list of all the features Respondus has to offer.  TLC staff use respondus to prepare and upload test banks for faculty using Blackboard.  We can scan and convert questions into Blackboard format and upload them into your course.   We can also assist faculty in copying the test banks from old courses to new course shells.

Skype:

Skype is a program that is commonly used for video conference calls. This can be very useful if you would like to have guest speakers in your classroom that are from a different area. Skype also makes it very easy to have more than a single person on the call at the same time. Skype is a free download for Mac and PC. A link can be found here.
