Global Engagement Office: Education Abroad

Steps to Study Abroad

1. ATTEND AN EDUCATION ABROAD 101 INFORMATIONAL SESSION

This is the first step of the journey. We encourage you to attend an EA 101 session as you begin to consider education abroad. These sessions cover important considerations including the benefits of education abroad, available programs, and the step-by-step process.

2. RESEARCH PROGRAM OPTIONS

After attending an EA 101 session, you will be responsible for researching your own programs. This is a great time to define your goals for your time abroad. What do you hope to accomplish?

3. MEET WITH YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR

Be sure to meet with your UCCS Academic Advisor to discuss how your proposed education abroad course work will fit your UCCS degree requirements. You must have a good understanding of your academic standing and what classes are necessary for graduation. It is best to discuss these things before you apply, as some programs have non-refundable registration fees.

4. MEET WITH YOUR EDUCATION ABROAD COORDINATOR

Once you have determined what program(s) you are interested in, meet with an Education Abroad Coordinator to discuss your plans. We will help you decide whether the program you have chosen fits your academic and personal goals.

5. CHECK OUT FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS

If you are interested in finding out what financial aid may be available to use toward education abroad, contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships can help determine what aid you may be eligible for. Scholarships opportunities are also available from UCCS and other external organizations. Research your scholarship options early.

6. DECIDE AND APPLY TO PROGRAM

Be sure to submit your application and supporting documents through your UCCSAbroad account by the deadlines. Note that you will always complete two applications- one online application for UCCS authorization through your UCCSAbroad AND an admission application directly with the program provider or host institution.
