Graduate Admission

A graduate applicant for admission to the College of Engineering & Applied Science will need to submit paperwork outlined in the following pages in order to be considered for admission into the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, or the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering. Paperwork must be submitted directly to the department that you are applying for. Please send your paperwork to the following:

For Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science, a completed application, including all supporting documentation, should be submitted 60 days prior to the term for which admission is sought, although applications are reviewed on a continual basis and will be considered if this deadline is not met. For Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, applications will be accepted up until March 1 for admission to the Summer or Fall semesters and October 1 for admission to the Spring semester.

Domestic Application Process

For domestic applicants, 3 types of applications are available: Regular Admission, Guaranteed Early Admission, and Fast Track Admission. The Regular Admission Process is for people who have never attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, or who have not attended the College of Engineering & Applied Science at UCCS in the past 4 years. The Guaranteed Early Admission Program is designed to offer outstanding students enrolled in their final semester in the College of Engineering & Applied Science at UCCS guaranteed and expedited admission. The Fast Track Admission Program is designed to offer a simplified admission process to former undergraduate students that have graduated from the College of Engineering & Applied Science at UCCS no more than four years prior to the time of application. Please see below for the type of application that meets your particular situation.

Regular Admission Process

For this process you must submit the following to the department you are applying for:

• A completed online application available here.
• A $60 non-refundable application fee, paid online or check made payable to UCCS.
• Two Official Transcripts from each college/university attended. all transcripts must be sent directly from the previous school to the department of the program applied to.
• Letters of Recommendation: for the Computer Science Department, at least 3 letters are needed with 2 coming from former instructors; for the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, 3 letters are needed; for the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department, 3 letters are needed
• GRE Scores are needed for the following departments: Computer Science, for all applicants with an undergraduate GPA less than 2.75; Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, for all applicants.
• Research/Teaching Assistantships are available, and are used for requesting financial assistance from the department - please contact the department directly for the RA/TA application.

Guaranteed Early Admission Program

For this program, the admission criteria is as follows:

• The applicant must be registered in his/her final undergraduate semester
• The applicant must have completed a minimum of 45 semester hours at UCCS upon graduation. For Computer Science, the applicant must be working towards his/her B.S. degree in CS. For the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, the applicant must be working towards his/her B.S. degree in ECE. For the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department, the applicant must be working towards his/her B.S. degree in MAE
• The applicant must have a minimum undergraduate GPA: for the Computer Science Department - 3.0; for the Electrical & Computer Science Department - 3.25; for the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department - 3.25
• The Applicant must be a resident of the United States

For this program, you must submit the following to the department you are applying for:

• A completed Guaranteed Early Admission application form
• A check or money order for $60 as a non-refundable application fee, made payable to UCCS
• A completed UCCS Transcript Request form
• A letter of recommendation from the current department chairperson
• Research/Teaching Assistantships are available, and are used for requesting financial assistance from the department please - contact the department directly for the RA/TA application

Fast Track Admission Program

For this program the admission criteria is as follows:

• The applicant must have graduated from the College of Engineering & Applied Science at UCCS no more than four years prior to time of application.
• The applicant must have a minimum undergraduate GPA: for the Computer Science Department - 3.0; for the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department - 3.25; for the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department - 3.25.

For this program you must submit the following to the department you are applying for:

• A completed Fast Track Admission application form
• A check or money order for $60 as a non-refundable application fee, made payable to UCCS
• A completed UCCS Transcript Request form
• Two official copies of transcript(s) for any university level studies attempted after graduation form UCCS
• A single letter of recommendation
• An In-State Tuition Classification form, if you are claiming in-state tuition eligibility
• Research/Teaching Assistantships are available, and are used for requesting financial assistance from the department - please contact the department directly for the RA/TA application

International Application Process

For International applicants, you must submit the following to the department you are applying for:

• A completed online application here
• A Financial Statement for International Students form, with the required documentation
• A $75, non-refundable application fee, paid online or check made payable to UCCS
• Two Official Transcripts from each college/university attended. All transcripts must be sent directly from the previous school to the department of the program being applied to
• Letters of Recommendation needed: for the Computer Science Department - 3; for the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department - 3; for the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department - 3
• GRE scores: for the Computer Science Department, the GRE is required with a score of at least 148 on the quantitative portion; for the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, the GRE is required with a minimum of 1200 combined score on verbal and quantitative; for the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department, the GRE is required
• TOEFL or IELTS: TOEFL score - 550-600 on paper-based examination, 213-250 on the computer-based exam, or 79-80 on the internet-based exam; IELTS score - 6 or higher. If you have graduated from a US institution; or if you have completed a UCCS approved English as a Second Language Program (either level 5 or level 112, depending on the program), you are exempt from this requirement
• Research/Teaching Assistantships may be available, and are used for requesting financial assistance from the department - please contact the department directly for the RA/TA application

Provisional Admission Status

For students with a grade point average below what the department requires for regular admission, Provisional Admission may be considered.
