February 2, 1925 - January 28, 2003

Robert S. Lorch, 77, died January 28, 2003 at home. He served many years as a professor of political science at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. During his career, he also taught at Georgia Tech University and California State University at Long Beach. He is the author of several books and articles.

Robert. S. Lorch, was a founding member of the Center for the Study of Government and the Individual and one of its driving forces. Dr. Lorch was instrumental in setting up the Center as he provided technical expertise in terms of equipment necessary to accomplish the center’s goals of publishing and producing educational materials. He also allowed the Center to publish two of his books, Public Administration, Second Edition (fall, 2002) and Colorado’s Government, Seventh Edition (spring, 2003), which he completed a week prior to his passing.

Dr. Lorch, son of Fred and Ruth Lorch, was born February 2, 1925, in Ames, Iowa. He was married December 19, 1964 to Barbara Ruth Day. He is survived by his wife; a son, John; a daughter-in-law, Crystal; two grandchildren, Carolyn and Robert; and a sister, Ruth Jean Gerhardt.

Memorial services celebrating Dr. Lorch's life were held at 5:00 p.m., on Monday, February 3, 2003, in The Lodge on the UCCS campus (1010 Austin Bluffs Parkway). Memorial contributions may be made to the Kraemer Family Library, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, 80933-7150.
