Pre-Graduation Checklist

Here are some suggestions to help you wrap up your studies at UCCS.

COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

___ Use the Commencement website at http://www.uccs.edu/~commencement to answer all of your questions regarding commencement. Graduating students will receive all information via e-mail.

___ Attend the Graduate Fair during the spring semester for graduation information, products, and services.

___ If you miss the Graduate Fair, visit the UCCS Bookstore to purchase regalia and for information on ordering graduation announcements, diploma frames, and college rings.

___  If you are going to be attending Commencement, don’t forget to register your attendance through the Commencement website or by responding to the registration e-mail.

ACADEMICS

___ Schedule a Senior Audit with your academic advisor the semester before you intend to graduate by calling (719)255-3260. During your Senior Audit you will verify graduation deadlines and apply for graduation.

___ Update your permanent address at MyCUInfo.edu to ensure you receive your diploma, enrollment deposit refund, and all other pertinent information without delay. Enrollment deposit refunds, less any outstanding charges, will be mailed eight weeks after graduation.

___ Clear your records. IWs and IFs can stop graduation. Your professor must clear them before the deadline set by your dean’s office. This also holds true for Continuing Education courses. Grades must be in before the deadlines, and your dean’s office must be notified.

___ Drop further courses. If you have already registered for further courses in your current degree program for an upcoming term but are graduating, it is your responsibility to drop all your courses. Students who graduate and plan to enroll at UCCS for further study must reapply to the University for a graduate degree or a second bachelor’s degree. Those who simply wish to take course work without pursuing a degree should consider applying though Continuing Education as non-degree students, which does not require an application fee or transcripts. Please call the Office of Admissions at 719-255-3084 for further information on degree programs, or Continuing Education at 719-255-3391 for non-degree student information.

___ Should your plans to graduate change, notify your college dean’s office immediately.

 FINANCIAL

___ Any financial obligations you have (fines, tickets, fees, etc.) must be cleared at the Bursar’s Office in Main Hall, Room 211.

___ If you have borrowed any Stafford loans while earning your degree please go to the National Student Loan Database (NSLDS) at http://www.nslds.ed.gov to complete the Stafford Loan Exit Counseling, to see your federal loan balance, and to see who your loan servicer is as well as their contact information.

___ If you have borrowed any Federal Perkins Loans, all Perkins borrowers are required to complete Perkins exit counseling once they have graduated or ceased half-time enrollment. You will receive a letter from Campus Partners, a third-party servicer for the University, when your exit counseling becomes available to complete.

___  If you have borrowed any alternative/private loans you will need to contact the lender you borrowed from.

AFTER GRADUATION

___ Contact the Career Center for help with your job search strategy before you graduate.  And, continue to receive career help as an alumni.

___ Check out the UCCS Alumni and Friends Association at www.uccs.edu/alumni. Membership is complimentary for all graduates and entitles you to a variety of discounts, benefits and services, including continued career advising.

___ Update your contact information with the Alumni and Friends Association at http://www.uccs.edu/alumni/update.html to receive invitations to alumni special events (like wine tastings, basketball games, art exhibits, etc.) and to stay in the loop about the latest news from your alma mater.

___ Alumni can also receive discounts on renters, auto and home insurance through our partnership with Liberty Mutual. For a free quote, call 800-524-9400 (mention client # 115289), or learn more on the Alumni Association website.

___ Take care of health insurance. Your policy eligibility may change based on age, dependency, or student status. For graduating students enrolled in a UCCS student health plan, coverage will continue through the end of the policy (check with the insurance company for specific dates). Though graduates are no longer eligible for continued UCCS student health plan coverage after their policies expire, the insurance company sells a continuation plan. This is different from the student health plan. For more information about the continuation plan, call ECI at 866-780-3824.  UCCS alumni can receive access to short-term health insurance and group dental insurance through our partnership with American Insurance Administrators. To learn more, call 800-922-1245 weekdays, 8 am - 6 pm ET, or visit the Alumni Association website.

AND…

___ Get excited! When you walk across the stage at Commencement, you are joining a Mountain Lion family that includes over 34,000 graduates who have gone before you. Revel in this moment. You deserve it!
