Application Process

Current UCCS Communication majors are eligible to apply after meeting the following:

  1. Completed the University of Colorado Colorado Springs's lower division core curriculum (LAS general education requirements)
  2. Completed a minimum of 60 semester credit hours
  3. Transfer students must complete at least 24 credit hours of Communication courses at UCCS before applying to the Accelerated program
  4. Completed the following six semester credit hours in Communication:
    • COMM 2500 Research Methods
    • COMM 4000 Rhetorical Dimensions In Communication
  5. Minimum cumulative overall GPA of 3.25 and Communication GPA of 3.50


Students can apply for the Accelerated program in their junior or senior year after completion of the above requirements (but students will most likely apply during the second semester of their junior year.) The submission deadline is Nov 1st for admission to the spring semester and by April 15thfor admission to the fall semester. The student must submit the following items to the Communication Graduate Director:

  • Personal statement of purpose
  • One letter of recommendation from a UCCS Communication faculty member
  • Accelerated BA/MA in Communication application form


Admission Criteria
Admission to the BA/MA in Communication program is competitive. Applicants are evaluated on the following:

  1. Grade point average (overall of 3.25 and 3.50 in Communication)
  2. Grade trend (improving, consistent, or declining)
  3. Likelihood of success and persistence based on the statement of purpose
  4. Recommendation letter

Students who are not admitted to the Accelerated Communication BA/MA program are eligible to reapply after completing an additional 12 semester credit hours. Students can apply and be considered for admission to the Accelerated BA/MA program a maximum of two times. The Communication Graduate Director is responsible for advising and admissions procedures and decisions about admittance. The Graduate Application Committee in Communication will review any questionable applicants.
