~ Background Information ~
Dr. Constance Staley is a Professor in the Department of Communication. She teaches undergraduate courses in business communication, conflict management, professional speaking, and a graduate seminar in training and development. While on leave from the University of Colorado from 1988-1991, she joined an East Coast Fortune 500 company, where she designed and delivered management training for a division of 3500 employees.
In addition to teaching, she conducts organizational training on personality profiling and team building, conflict management, group dynamics, and effective speaking and writing. Her work appears in such journals as Group and Organization Studies, Communication Quarterly, Public Personnel Management, Communication Education, and Human Relations. Her co-authored book with Robert Staley, Communicating in Business and the Professions: The Inside Word, was published in 1992, and her recent books include Teaching College Success, a multimedia training package to prepare first-year seminar instructors, and 50 Ways to Leave Your Lectern. She trains Freshman Seminar faculty across the country and works with institutions to develop and refine their college success programs.
Dr. Staley directs the UCCS Freshman Seminar Program, the Certificate in Career and Academic Professionalim (CAP) Program, and formerly, the Faculty Teaching with Technology Program. During 1995-96, she was selected to teach in the former Soviet Union as a Fulbright Scholar, representing the University of Colorado and the United States. Dr. Staley won the “Outstanding Teacher Award” in 2000, was a finalist for the President of the University of Colorado’s “Teaching with Technology Award,” a finalist in the National First-Year Student Advocate Award, and was recently nominated for a “U.S. Professor of the Year Award.” .
Away from work, Dr. Staley enjoys spending time with her husband, an English professor at Colorado Technical University, her two daughters Shannon and Stephanie, and her grandtwins, Aidan and Ailie
