Monica Yoo is an assistant professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.  She received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of California at Berkeley.  She has worked closely with credential candidates as a student teaching supervisor.  Her research interests in language and literacy include secondary students’ reading comprehension, connections between reading and writing, and the development of students’ academic literacy.  These interests stem from her practical experience as a former high school English teacher working with students from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
