A recent labor market report from the Colorado Office of Economic Development found that the number of annual graduates (1,976) falls well short of the annual number of job openings (3,456) for preschool, elementary, secondary, and special education teachers.
The Bachelor of Arts in Inclusive Elementary Education offers undergraduate education majors the opportunity to engage in cross-disciplinary coursework required to secure an Initial Colorado Teacher License endorsed for K - 6 elementary education, special education, and culturally and linguistically diverse education with 121 credit hours of coursework. A student will be able to complete the curriculum with four years of full-time study.
You will learn to be a teacher for all children with a BA in Inclusive Elementary Education. This degree prepares teachers to utilize universal course design, innovative methods, instructional best-practice, and technology to support the success of all students. The program leads to:

Once admitted to the University, your next step is to attend an advising session with a member of the Student Success Center
“College of Education Advisor” in Main Hall. In your advising session, you will complete a Preparation Plan listing course work still needed to complete the undergraduate degree content and prerequisite courses. Included in this plan is a timeline of dates and a list of the Teacher Education core courses that must be completed.

Professional Year Application Process (Year 4)to College of Education for the BA in Inclusive Elementary Education
The final year of the program is called the Professional Year. The Professional Year is a Summer/Fall/Spring sequence of coursework. During the Professional Year, you will be placed, engage in training activities, student teach, and be supervised within inclusive classroom settings. By February 1, prior to beginning your Professional Year, you will complete a separate application process to the College of Education. The steps to apply to the College of Education for the B. A. in Inclusive Elementary Education Professional Year are:
- September - November before your Professional Year, contact the UCCS College of Education Student Resource Office at (719) 255-4996 to schedule an advising appointment with your assigned BAIEE advisor. During this appointment the COE advisor will verify that you are on-track meeting program requirements, will review the application process, and will outline the upcoming Professional Year.
- Secure and complete COE application materials for the BA in Inclusive Elementary Education Professional Year.
- Include the receipt for the $50.00 COE application fee to be paid to the UCCS Bursar's Office.
- Career Goals Statement.
- Provide proof of a completed background check per College of Education requirements.
- Provide three professional letters of reference.

UCCS BAIEE and CDE Degree Requirements
To remain in good academic standing within the College of Education, students must maintain a cumulative CU GPA of 2.5, or better all
semesters. Student whose cumulative CU GPA falls below a 2.5 will be placed on academic probation for the next semester in which they are enrolled. While on probation, students must raise their cumulative GPA to 2.5 within one semester. If the required semester GPA is not met, the student will be suspended from the College of Education for a full academic year.
- Designated minimum "B-" grade in selected courses (all semesters):In addition to maintaining the cumulative CU GPA, per your degree plan, a "B-" or better final grade is required in all education courses; all IELM courses; MATH 3010, MATH 3020, and ENGL 1310. If a "B-" is not achieved, the designated course must be retaken.
- Application for Professional Year:Students seeking the BA in Inclusive Elementary Education must apply to the College of Education to be admitted to the Year 4 course sequence (i. e. the Professional Year). Applications are due on February 1 of the junior year. Contact the College of Education Student Resource Office(719) 255-4996 for application information.
- Background Check Requirements: Prior to field placements, students must complete background checks per requirements of the College of Education.
- Elementary Content Exams: To receive Colorado Initial Teacher Licensure with an Elementary Education (Grades K - 6) endorsement, students must take and pass the Praxis II #5001 exam (Elementary Education:Multiple Subjects) per Colorado Department of Education requirements. Plan to schedule this exam no later than Spring of Year 3. To qualify for Special Education Generalist (5 - 21) endorsement, students must take and pass the Praxis II #5354 exam (Special Education Core Knowledge and Application) per Colorado Department of Education requirements.
It is recommended that students take this exam in the Summer just prior to the Professional Year. To qualify for a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (grades K - 12) endorsement, students must successfully complete 24 credit hours or a program from a regionally-accredited institution. This required coursework is included in the B. A. in Inclusive Elementary Education course sequence at UCCS. This endorsement does not require a content exam.
