 The CLC Community Board ensures that the vision of CLC becomes reality by providing direction,

resources, volunteers, oversight, and accountability. Each entity has the obligation to work in harmony with the other.

Chris Blees

Chris Blees- BiggsKofford

Bio: Chris began his career with a progressive CPA and Consulting firm, BiggsKofford, located in Colorado Springs immediately after graduating with a degree in Accounting. Chris progressed quickly and made Partner at BiggsKofford after only 6 years with the firm. Later, he became the firm's President and CEO. Chris has been active in many other professional organizations as well.

Additional Information: Chris is active in many outdoor and athletic pursuits, including climbing all of Colorado's 14,000 ft. mountains, as well as Mt. Ranier and Mt. McKinley.


Rita Burns- Community Volunteer

Bio: Rita J. Burns is an active community volunteer for several Colorado Springs non-profit and leadership organizations (in addition to CLC), such as Kidpower, Drive Smart, Leadership Pikes Peak, and the Colorado Springs Leadership Institute.  Previously, Rita worked as the Vice President of Communications/Marketing at Memorial health System for 20 years.  She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Public Relations and a Master's Degree in Communications.

Additional Info: Rita's family includes two grown sons, Justin and Brendan, a daughter-in-law, Katie, and two grandchildren, Jayden and Alexis.

Shannon Coker

Shannon Coker- Alumni Representative/Care & Share Foodbank

Bio: Shannon graduated Cum Laude from UCCS in December of 2005 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Leadership Studies. She currently works for the Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado where she plans events and coordinates food drives for the community. She is a native to Colorado Springs, and returned to work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association after briefly relocating to Houston, Texas.

Additional Info: Shannon recently began her own photography business specializing in portrait and event photography.

David Jorgens

David Jorgens-  Rainsberger Wealth Advisors

Bio: David graduated from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs with a Bachelor in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and minor in Leadership Studies.  He is a Chancellor's Leadership Class Alum.  He grew up in the Chicago area and went to high school in Arkansas.  David is an active member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the Colorado Springs Business Alliance Rising Professionals, and the Colorado Springs Rotary.  Professionally, his areas of focus include wealth management, financial planning, investments, retirement, college planning, and "financial fitness".

Additional Info: Prior to his experience in the finance industry, David spent five years in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician working on A-6 aircraft.  He traveled around the world while in the military and played an active part in the Bosnian-Herzegovina War, Kuwaiti Liberation War, and the Desert Shield/Desert Storm Wars.  David also had a career as a personal trainer and racing coach specializing in endurance sports.  David has 1 daughter, Isabella, who lives here in Colorado Springs.  "Bella" (7) is a very active little girl and they both love all of the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer.

C.J. Moore- Kaiser Permanente

Bio: C.J. is the Public Affairs Director for Kaiser Permanente in Southern Colorado, where she is responsible for media and community relations, charitable contributions, and member communications. She has been with Kaiser Permanente for over twelve years. C.J. holds a B.A. in English from Auburn University and has done postgraduate work at California State University, Long Beach.

Additional Info: C.J. is a 2000 graduate of Leadership Pikes Peak and a 2003 graduate of the Colorado Springs Leadership Institute. She has recieved many awards, including being named the 2007 Business Leader of the Year by the Southern Colorado Women's Chamber.

Barbara Newberry

Barbara Newberry- Community Activist

Bio: Barbara has twenty years experience as Director of Nursing Support Services at Memorial Health System with responsibility for Case Management, Patient Education, Nursing Education, Hospitalist Program and Quality Improvement; she provided Administrative support and direction for CME and Wound Care Center, and had a key role in development and management of Disease Management for Outpatient Clinic Services at Printers Parkway Medical Plaza. She also has eight years prior clinical experience in acute care and critical care nursing unitsand was a nurse since 1965 in several states and overseas.

Additional Info: Married to Michael Newberry for 46 years; three sons, all married, six grandchildren; member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church; 3 mission trips to Russia; gardening, camping, hiking, biking, and traveling are current pastime.

Jerry Schaefer- Hewlett Packard

Bio:Jerry is the Global Service Line and Delivery Executive for Hewlett Packard's Enterprise Administration BPO Business. He is responsible for all aspects of service offerings and service delivery for HP's Finance & Accounting, Human Resource, Payroll, and Procurement BPO Customer Accounts. Jerry has been with HP/Agilent for 30 years and has been involved with shared services since the early 1990s.

Additional Info: Jerry resides in Colorado Springs with Yvonne, his wife of 25 years. They have three children: Edward (CSU class of 2008), Susan (CU Boulder class of 2010), and Charles (Western Michigan University class of 2012).

Pam Shipp

Pam Shipp- PL Shipp and Associates

Bio: Pam's undergraduate degree is from Colorado College, she earned a MA from George Washington University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Denver University. Dr. Pam Shipp is a leadership consultant and founder of PL Shipp and Associates. She has gained international recognition for her work with leadership teams and community organizations. In addition to her public speaking and consulting, she is currently adjunct faculty at the Center for Creative Leadership where she trained executive leadership courses for twenty years and managed the nonprofit programs at the Colorado Springs campus. Prior to joining the Center, she worked as a public school administrator, a business management consultant, and psychotherapist.

Additional Info: She is a licensed psychologist and managed a private clinical practice in Colorado Springs for 12 years. She is a civic leader and enjoys time with her family, dance, film, and theater. Pam has been recognized in Who's Who in Black Colorado Springs, a recipient of the NAACP Community Service Award and featured in the Gazette Telegraph's Women at the Top.

Carey STark

Carey Stark - Carey Stark Law Firm

Bio: Carey grew up in Colorado Springs and has practiced solely in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration and wealth transfer planning since receiving her law degree over a decade ago.  During law school Carey clerked in the Trusts & Estates department of one of the nation's largest non-profit organizations.  Prior to starting her own solo practice, Carey was an associate in the Trusts & Estates Departments of two large law firms:  Rider, Bennett in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and most recently, Holland & Hart LLP in Colorado Springs.

Barbara Winter

Barbara Winter- ENT Federal Credit Union

Bio: Barbara currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Organizational Resources for Ent Federal Credit Union. Prior to that, she was Assistant Vice President of Human Resources and Administration for the Colorado Interstate Gas Company. Barbara holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University.

Additional Info: Barbara has been (and is currently) involved with many organizations including Executive Women International, Goodwill, Silver Key Senior Services, and Pikes Peak YMCA. She currently serves as the Chair of the Pikes Peak United Way Board. She was the 2002 recipient of the Athena Award from the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce.
