The Fitness program offers a variety of educational workshops each semester to teach students, faculty/staff and alumni at Campus Recreation new skills, or enhance existing skills and knowledge as it relates to health, fitness and wellness topics. Some educational workshops are offered at no cost, some at a nominal fee.
Introduction to Kettlebells
Attend this 45-minute workshop to learn how to choose an appropriate kettlebell weight for your ability and skill level, perform basic kettlebell movements, and do so with appropriate form and postural alignment. Attend this 45-minute workshop to learn about the benefits provided by functional training, how to safely and effective use TRX® suspension training, and how to incorporate basic TRX® exercises into your existing exercise routine. The most versatile equipment piece in the fitness center! Attend this 45-minute workshop to learn about the major muscle groups affected by strength and functional training, how to safely and effectively use the stations and accessories within the Synrgy360T, and how to incorporate basic exercises into your existing exercise routine. Introduction to indoor cycling
Spend time with a cycle instructor so you can set up your bike properly , learn how to cycle with good form and alignment, then test ride some basic drills to introduce you to this class format. This 30-minute class will introduce you to the fundamentals of indoor cycling while improving your confidence on the bike. No cycling experience required. Class size limited to 15. All ability and skill levels welcome.
The purpose of this 2-hour interactive workshop is to provide participants with the foundation necessary to practice inverted poses, headstands and shoulder stands safely, and to continue performing these poses with greater skill and confidence. Instructor will provide options to adapt these poses to address common limitations. No current practice of inversions is needed to participate. The Fitness program does recommend participants have at least 6 months of yoga class experience.

The "Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) for Women" program offers a holistic approach to self-defense by creating awareness and providing education through lecture and discussion, followed by instruction on realistic self-defense tactics, techniques and physical resistive strategies. R.A.D. is the only self-defense program endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), National Academy of Defense Education, and the National Self-Defense Institute (NSDI). Facilitated by certified R.A.D. instructor. Program length approximately 9-12 hours. Program suitable for women of all ages and abilities.
