Shawna Markiewicz serves as Project Manager for the College of Business Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and for the El Pomar Institute for Innovation & Commercialization (EPIIC). She is also the coordinator of the Office of Professional & Executive Development (OPED) within the College of Business for non-credit continuing education programs. Ms. Markiewicz served as the Assistant to the Director of the Colorado Springs SBDC from August 2009 through December 2011 and supervised the day to day operations of the center including support services, event planning and the coordination of training workshops for small business entrepreneurs. Shawna obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from New Mexico Highlands University in 2006. She is currently pursuing her MBA at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
Tom Duening, PhD, Faculty Advisor
Dr. Tom Duening is the director of the Center for Entrepreneurship. Dr. Duening has written 13 books on business and entrepreneurship, authored more than 60 conference papers and journal articles, and has started seven businesses. His most recent book, "The Entrepreneurial Method" was published by Kendall-Hunt in 2012. In addition, Dr. Duening published a textbook on Technology Entrepreneurship with Elsevier in 2010. His most recent entrepreneurial ventures include an outsourcing firm based in Bangalore, India; a business consulting firm, and an e-learning venture focused on entrepreneurship. While he was in Arizona, Dr. Duening founded the Arizona Technology Investor Forum (ATIF), an angel investor group that became a leading provider of capital to Arizona entrepreneurs.
