What is OPED?

The Office of Professional & Executive Development (OPED) in the College of Business at UCCS is committed to providing high-quality professional training to regional businesses. OPED was founded in 2011 and has quickly become a recognized center of excellence for advanced training programs. It bases its professional and executive programs on "project-based learning" principles. Each program provides participants with the opportunity to apply their new knowledge and skills in their workplace settings through individual and group projects.

OPED provides programs to three specific workplace audiences:

Executive: Executive development programs are designed to provide top executive teams with insights, concepts, knowledge, and skills that will help them better position the organization for the future. These high-level programs assume broad background knowledge in business among participants. This enables maximizing time spent on leading edge organizational concepts and strategies. Projects in these programs focus on organizational strategy, transformation, and leadership.

Managerial: Managerial development programs are designed to provide mid-level managers with practical tools and techniques that will increase their effectiveness. These programs assume some experience in organizing, planning, leading, and controlling organizational units or profit centers. Practical, hands-on projects propel participants in managerial programs to higher levels of performance and career advancement.

Supervisory: Supervisory level development programs focus on providing basic tools and techniques to individuals tasked with supervisory responsibilities. These programs assume only minimal background knowledge, and focus on helping supervisors develop the personal, interpersonal, and professional skills that will help them become more effective in their jobs.
