College of Business Alumni Association Volunteer Roles

Please consider volunteering and adding your unique skills to the College of Business Alumni Association. We've created a fun team of motivated, self-starters to organize events, programs, community involvement and communications. An organization of this caliber takes the dedication of select volunteers. The benefits of participating include networking and making connections with local business and community leaders, gaining valuable project management and leadership experience, working with a professional team and more. Committees/Action Teams

The College of Business Alumni Association accomplishes its work through a number of committees. There are numerous opportunities to engage and volunteer in your areas of interests and skills.

Networking Team-Business graduates need to build connections in order to advance their careers, and this team organizes events that will be beneficial and fun. This group also is responsible for working with other teams to identify and develop new leaders.

Mentoring Team-This team helps students and alumni build their careers through the annual Speed Mentoring event. Read More About Speed Mentoring. The team also connects local professionals with students and faculty through the Executives in the Classroom program.

Community Outreach Team-More than 60% of our 8,000 graduates live along the Front Range, creating the potential for a powerful advocate for business in the Pikes Peak region. This team connects community leaders with the College through major events and involvement in community initiatives.

Fundraising Team-This team focuses on funding the objectives of the Alumni Association, from recruiting sponsors for events and newsletters to soliciting the investment of fellow alumni. These efforts fund the Office of Alumni Relations and its programs and scholarships.

Lifetime Entrepreneurship Award Planning Team-Help us plan the major event in Colorado Springs that celebrates the legacy of entrepreneurship in our community. This event is the biggest fundraiser for the College and supports scholarships, programs and events for students, alumni and community members. Read More About the Event.

COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER ROLES

Committee Chair-Serve 2-year term as committee chair or co-chair; guide committee to develop and achieve strategies, goals and measurable outcomes that align with College of Business Alumni Association mission, vision and goals. Serve on Alumni Association Leadership team and attend quarterly meetings.
Time Commitment: about 3-5 hours per month for meetings, action items and events.

Committee Member-Serve on committee; assist in developing and achieving committee strategies, goals and measurable outcomes; assist as needed to implement. Committees generally meet once a month, plus action items and events.
Time Commitment: about 3-4 hours per month for meeting, action items and events
Networking Team Student Liaison-Help develop programs and promote Alumni Association to students; target freshman and help build the base.
Networking Team Recent Alumni Liaison-Plan events and programs specifically for recent alumni; engage recent alumni; help coordinate Finals Survival Table each semester.
Mentoring Team Faculty Liaison-Contact and develop relationships with faculty; coordinate scheduling of presenters for Executives in the Classroom program.
Fundraiser-Serve a vital role in garnering support for programs that support the alumni office and programs that benefit alumni, students, the College of Business and the community. Primary fundraising season is in the fall.
Secretary-Schedule meetings, develop agendas and produce minutes.

Mentor-Mentor College of Business students and recent alumni to help them transition from student to business professional.
Time Commitment: Speed Mentoring: 4 hours fall semester; Formal Mentoring: 2-4 hours per month

Executive in the Classroom Presenter-Speak on relevant topics to business students; discuss real-world application of concepts taught in classroom; raise awareness of alumni association.
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per semester


COMMUNICATIONS ROLES

Newsletter Assistant Editor-Write articles, proof newsletter
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per month

Web Site Content Assistant Editor-Create and edit content
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per month

Alumni Profiles Coordinator-Coordinate volunteers to contact and interview alumni for monthly alumni profile. Identify future alumni to profile as needed.
Time Commitment: about 2 hours per month

Social Media Officer-Post content regularly on social media sites, particularly Facebook and LinkedIn; recommend strategies based on current practices
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per month

Invitations/Calls Officer-Call and invite alumni to events and obtain email addresses
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per quarter


VOLUNTEER/STUDENT RECRUITMENT ROLES

Volunteer Coordinator- Works closely with Office of Alumni Relations in coordinating the recruiting, screening, scheduling and training of volunteers. Match volunteer interest and abilities to actual needs of alumni programs. Responsible for ongoing communication with volunteers as well as efforts to recognize and show appreciation for their efforts, contributions and support.
Time Commitment: about 6-8 hours per month

Volunteer Recruitment-Identify and meet with potential volunteers; promote Alumni Association; encourage engagement.
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per month

Student Recruitment-Help promote College of Business to potential students.
Time Commitment: about 4-6 per semester


SPECIAL EVENTS ROLES

Event Planner-Plan logistics, make phone calls, track RSVPs, prepare sign-in sheet.
Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per event, 1-2 events per year

Event Marketing Officer-Plan and implement marketing campaign for specific event. Involves working with committee to develop promotional theme, tagline and blurb, then developing look and feel to apply to event web page, email invitations and flyers. Promote event through emails, flyers, social media, calls, etc.
Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per event, 1-2 events per year

Event Host/Registration-Greet and check in event guests; answer questions; encourage guests to join Alumni & Friends 500 and fill out response cards.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per event, 1-2 events per year

Event Reporter & Photographer-Take photos at event, get quotes, write a summary the day after the event.
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per event, 1-2 events per year
