On June 4, 2012, the Grand Champion winners of the Best Strategy Invitational (BSI) international competition were announced. Can you guess which university in the world produced the winning student team for this competition?
On June 4th, Kelly Hansen and Adam Hulsey, two of our MBA students were named the Grand Champions of the 2012 GLO-BUS Best Strategy Invitational competition. GLO-BUS is a completely online exercise where teams of students run a company in head-to-head global competition against companies run by students from universities around the world. In this case, the virtual companies compete in a global market arena in the digital camera industry, selling cameras in four geographic regions - Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.
Kelly and Adam, as students in Dr. Sam White's business strategy course, had placed first in their class simulation exercise, a status that earned an invitation from GLO-BUS to participate in the BSI international competition. Their challenge in this competition was to craft and execute a competitive strategy that would result in a respected brand image, keep their company in contention for global market leadership and produce good financial performance as measured by earnings per share, return on investment, stock price appreciation and credit rating. Skills and concepts acquired from their MBA courses at UCCS helped them win top honors in this worldwide competition. To win in this competition, they did extensive research into the specifics of the digital camera industry including component usage, camera performance, product line breadth, production operations, work force compensation, outsourcing, pricing, sales and marketing, finance, and corporate citizenship and social responsibility.
Our faculty take great pride in offering excellent instruction and concrete business skills that enable our students to compete at both local, national and international levels.
Please join me in congratulating Kelly and Adam on their outstanding accomplishment.
