Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As we are nearing the start of the academic year, I would like to highlight the experience of an officer in the U.S. Airforce and graduate of our MBA program, since our AACSB International accredited Campus MBA, Online MBA and Executive MBA programs have been getting a lot of attention recently.
Dr. James Bales began considering an MBA while in active duty at the largest medical facility in the U.S. Air Force, he was also completing his residency as an orthopedic surgeon; all while training and competing as a professional triathlete.
Dr. Bales knew he needed the flexibility of online classes with his multiple commitments, but he wanted the on-campus experience whenever he had the time in his schedule. When he saw how our MBA integrates both these options seamlessly, he knew he'd found the perfect fit. He could study and be "in class" whenever he needed to - not at a preset class time.
James also wanted a rigorous program, and frankly wondered if the online classes would offer the engagement he desired. He was surprised that, far from being anonymous or dry, the online classes offered close interaction with the professors, plus stimulating collaboration with peers from all over the world and from many different fields. At one point, while he was in Brazil, he was working on a team that included a student in Canada and a student in South Carolina.
James credits his MBA education with much of his success today. He currently works in the second largest hospital in the Air Force, Keesler Medical Center in Mississippi. With the business training and skills he gained, he has helped his department and other clinics increase efficiencies and improve patient care. Here is how James reflected on his MBA experience:
"Getting my MBA at UCCS was one of the best educational moves I ever made. I had a lot of outstanding faculty along the way and learned a tremendous amount that I have been able to directly apply to my work. With the demands of my full-time military job, the flexibility of the UCCS MBA with online classes was crucial for my success. It allowed me to complete my requirements while traveling both nationally and internationally.
The skillset I learned through the UCCS MBA program allowed me to expand my career options as I learned about the business aspects of healthcare, practice management, taxes, and finance. I've been able to improve myself personally and professionally."
James is also Head Coach for the Air Force Warrior Games team, where his athletes compete in over 50 sports and recently took home many awards. We're very proud of the work James is doing and the difference he is making.
Another exciting program that I am proud of is our CU Executive MBA Program (EMBA), developed specifically for experienced business professionals. The EMBA program has partnered with the Center for Creative Leadership and is taught by top-notch faculty from all three CU business schools (Boulder, Colorado Springs and Denver) to offer an extraordinary educational opportunity with little disruption to current careers.
As you can see, there are great things happening in our graduate school. Be sure to visit our programs online to learn more about the opportunities they provide.
