UCCS License Plates
UCCS License Plates
You can purchase a UCCS license plate for a total of $100 - a $50 tax-deductible donation to the Alumni & Friends Association plus a one-time $50 fee to the county clerk (in addition to your regular registration fees). A voluntary annual scholarship donation to the Alumni & Friends Association is encouraged after the initial payment.
Step #1: Order online and make your $50 scholarship donation by credit card
Step #2: The Alumni & Friends Association will mail you an "Alumni License Plate Approval Certificate" to take to your local county clerk's office. The certificate serves as proof that you have made the appropriate donation to the UCCS Alumni & Friends Association.
Step #3: Once you have received the approval certificate, you are eligible to purchase UCCS license plates. Take your approval certificate, registration, and current vehicle plates to your local county clerk's office. Non-personalized plates will be issued at that time. You will pay the county clerk your standard license and registration fees plus a one-time fee of $50.
Note: You must obtain the plates through the county in which you live. For your convenience, we suggest calling your county clerk ahead of time to ensure that UCCS license plates are in stock.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have to be a UCCS alumnus to get a plate?
Anyone can get a UCCS license plate - you do not have to be an alumnus. All that's required is a $50 donation to the Alumni and Friends Association.
- Can I get plates for all the vehicles in my household?
Yes! A donation to the Alumni and Friends Association must be made for each vehicle getting the plates. For example, if a husband and wife wanted plates on each of their cars they would owe $50 each (tax-deductible) to the Alumni and Friends Association ($100 total) plus an additional $50 per vehicle to the county clerk ($100). That's a total purchase price of $200.
- What about my license plate registration stickers?
When you pick up your new UCCS license plates, you will be given a new set of registration stickers for your vehicle. There will be no need to transfer the stickers from the old plate to the new one.
- How do I apply for personalized plates?
Request the "Alumni Special License Plate Application" from the UCCS Alumni Association by checking the box on the application. Upon completion, submit the DR 2810 Personalized License Plate Application and original approval certificate to the Colorado Department of Revenue (complete instructions appear on the approval certificate). Please note that approval and manufacture of personalized plates can take up to three months. The DR 2810 Personalized License Plate Application can be obtained at www.Colorado.gov/revenue. Please note that personalized plates are a $60.00 application fee (in addition to all other taxes and fees) and an additional $25.00 per year each renewal.
- What if I currently have personalized plates, can I transfer them to a UCCS personalized plate?
Yes, request the "Alumni Special License Plate Application" from the UCCS Alumni Association by checking the box on the application. Upon completion, submit the DR 2813 Personalized License Plate Conversion Application and original approval certificate to the Colorado Department of Revenue. The DR 2813 Personalized license Plate Conversion Application can be obtained at www.Colorado.gov/revenue.
- What if I sell my car in the future but want to keep my UCCS plates?
The UCCS license plates remain with the owner. You may transfer the plates to any vehicle that you own. If you do not have a vehicle to which you want to transfer the plates, you should keep the plates and the last issued DR 2574 Colorado Registration Receipt issued with them for future proof of ownership of the plates if and when you desire to plate another vehicle with them.
- I already have a CU license plate featuring the buffalo, but I want to switch to the UCCS license plate. How do I do that?
If you already have a CU license plate with the buffalo but want the UCCS plate instead, follow the same steps outlined above. You will still have to make a donation to the UCCS Alumni and Friends Association and pay your specialty plate fee of $50 to the county clerk. There is no cross over of the vouchers or transfer of them from one plate to another.
- I went to UCCS, but I want to get the buffalo license plate rather than the plate with the UCCS logo. How do I do that?
If you want to obtain the CU Boulder license plate featuring the buffalo, you'll need to work with the CU Boulder Office of Alumni Relations. The buffalo plate will no longer be available through the Office of Alumni Relations at UCCS.
