Alumni Connections: College of Engineering and Applied Science,
April 2011

R. DandapaniGreetings from the College of Engineering & Applied Science,

This past Friday, the Engineering Advisory Boards (EAB) youngest member, Ryan Freckleton (bio below), along with our EAS Internship Coordinator, Jane Wampler, and consultant, Joe Swaty, launched a new professional perspective on start-up businesses. They presented this idea that with the right amount of funding, internship/employment opportunities and industry mentorships all combined as "A Business Accelerator" can create a new small and profitable business. The impact something like this could have on the community is invaluable. It would allow entrepreneurial students and their young minds to benefit fiscally and economically. The effect it could have on a city's job market is extensive. These types of business accelerators would support new technologies and collaboration between industry members, universities, local entrepreneurs and help stabilize the surrounding economy. A few of the EAB members have joined together and taken this idea into their own hands. More is to come from this "Business Accelerator." Please make a note our Annual EAS Awards Ceremony is coming up in early May and that you and your families are welcome to attend. More information is found below. We want to thank you for enduring with us as part of our community, college and commitment to excellence.

Soon-to-Be Alumnus Dylan Vaughn

Vaughn FamilyDylan Vaughn, an engineering student, walks across the stage this may in celebration as he will have just completed his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science after 8 years. With the support of wife, Andrea, and their two children, Nicholas and Stephanie, Dylan reports of excitement as his final semester comes to an end. Dylan exclaimed after putting his drumsticks down from rock n roll and entering the work force and world of responsibility that there came a desire to further his education. The fiscal incentive to make more money and motivations to further his career finally brought him here to UCCS's College of Engineering & Applied Science. Dylan has been developing software for 20 yrs., along with being a father and husband, and has a unique perspective of what it takes and what it means to be a student. Along with his family's support and his unyielding patience Dylan, in less than a month, will graduate. Please join with the college of engineering in congratulating him on his hard work and the best of luck and success for the future.
