White House Highlights Chancellor, UCCS as "Champions of Change"

Pam Shockley-Zalabak Each week the White House highlights “Champions of Change” who are making an impact in communities and helping America rise to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

In September, UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak, was selected as a “Champion of Change” and participated in a roundtable discussion on the positive impact of many community colleges across the nation. Shockley-Zalabak talked about the Southern Colorado Education Consortium, a partnership between two and four-year colleges in southern Colorado to improve student success in the region. (More)

Beth-El Instructor Aims to Assist Disabled Athletes

Archery When Craig Elder, instructor, Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, heads to Mexico in a few weeks, it won’t be for a beachside vacation.

Instead, Elder, will serve as an athletic trainer for some of the world’s top athletes participating in the Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Nov. 12 to 20, exactly 20 days after the XVI Pan American Games, one of the most important and highly publicized athletic events leading to the 2012 London Olympic games. Hope Hoch is Employee of the Quarter

Employee of the Quarter honors for Oct.-Dec. 2011 went to Hope Hoch, program assistant, Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Associated with Beth-El for 20 years, Hoch is responsible for the overall operations of Beth-El’s Health Sciences Department. She is known for conducting her duties with limitless patience, inexhaustible energy and a smile. Described as a team player, a wise and loyal comrade, and a dedicated employee, she functions in a way that exceeds her job requirements.

Hoch possesses “a depth of knowledge about the regimen and inner workings of both Beth-El and UCCS that few can match,” according to K.C. Craig, a Beth-El instructor. (More)
