MLS students reap rewards of belonging to ASCP community

From e-StudentNews of ASCP e-Newsbriefs, November 2011

For Sharon Worack, reading ASCP publications and belonging to its community [is] vital as well.

"ASCP has opened my eyes to the world after graduation," said Ms. Worack, an MLS student at University of Colorado Colorado Springs in affiliation with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE., and now on clinical rotation at Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO.

"I'm kept up-to-date on science through the magazines. Also, ASCP publications show how laboratory professionals interact with other healthcare providers in hospitals and explain daily situations. It's crucial to a professional organization to network and be part of a community, obtain education, and learn about ways to get more involved to help career advancement."

Ms. Murphy expects to continue her membership with ASCP once she passes her Board of Certification exams and earns her ASCP credentials. For now, she appreciates all the value ASCP membership brings her without denting her budget.

The UCCS Archives is located in Room 311 of the Kraemer Family Library. The Archives collects and maintains materials documenting the history and operations of the Colorado Springs campus of the University of Colorado.
