This page explains the ins-and-outs of using the logo correctly. When a logo is used incorrectly it damages the integrity and credibility of a brand.

The official campus logo consists of two parts: the mark (mountain graphic with UCCS) and the wordmark (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs).
The UCCS logo should be used on all University publications, whether in print or electronic form. Officially recognized UCCS departments, programs, institutes and staff are authorized to use the logo to represent the University.
There are a total of 5 color treatments for various applications: Full Color, Full Color Reverse, Greyscale, Greyscale Reverse, and Single Color.

The logo must be reproduced on a background that allows for clear legibility. When placing it on a dark background, use the reverse logo. Do not stretch, bend, twist or otherwise distort artwork — improper usage is detailed further down.
A clear space free of text and graphic elements (shown here as the grey space) must surround the logo
on all sides. The clear zone ensures the proper staging
and maximum visibility of the UCCS logo.
The minimum clear space allowance is equal to the height of the capital ‘U’ in University. This size will change as does the size of the capital ‘U’ when the logo is resized. Allow additional clear space when possible.
Allowing adequate clear space keeps the logo free from distracting imagery, text, or other graphic elements.
The logo is available in several sizes.
Choose the size that most closely matches your needs. You may reduce the
logo but be sure to do so proportionately (the same amount vertically
as horizontally). The logo is also available as a vector graphic,
(available vector file formats are; EPS, PDF, Ai and PSD) which may be sized
up or down without loss of quality.
Minimum size: To ensure readability, the height of the logomark for any logo application should never measure smaller than 1/2 inch in print or 50 pixels for on-screen uses.
Visual consistency is essential to maintaining the integrity, credibility, and recognition of the brand. None of the logo elements should be redrawn or altered in any way. The examples in this section illustrate several unacceptable uses of the logo.

Rules regarding logos for departments, colleges, programs, centers, etc. are forthcoming. For the time being, please use the official campus logo on your materials.
Programs and departments with their own "logos" are encouraged to treat these marks as design elements in their communications so that they are not confused with the official UCCS campus logo. Unlicensed marks produced by campus programs and departments may appear on the same publication with the UCCS campus logo, but they are not to be stacked or treated as equal. Unlicensed marks can never replace the official UCCS logo as the only mark on a public-facing publication. Do not combine any unlicensed mark with the UCCS campus logo. Let the UCCS Logo stand alone with space around it.
The Mountain Lion was created as an athletic logo for UCCS. There are two
versions: one with mountains, and one of just the mountain lion head. It
should not be used in combination with the campus logo. Guidelines for
using the mountain lion logo are available at www.uccs.edu/vcaf/. (Policy 100-002)
Campus users other than athletics may apply for usage of the Mountain Lion
logo. Contact the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration for a “Request for Use of the Mountain Lion Logo”.

Each format is suited to a specific purpose, most common being TIF for print and JPG or GIF for on-screen.
If you have any questions about which format to use for your project, please contact Jeff Foster.
The campus logo is available in several formats. Each format is designed for a specific purpose, such as commercial printing, digital output or on-screen viewing.
| TIF |
JPG & GIF |
EPS & PDF |
AI & PSD |
| High-Quality Print (CMYK) | Screen / Web (RGB) |
Scalable Print (CMYK) | Fully Editable (RBG & CMYK) |
TIF files are high-quality files well suited for printed materials and are compatible with most desktop publishing and graphic design programs. They are raster graphics, or pixel-based file formats, meaning that they are resolution dependent and cannot be enlarged without losing quality. Please note that some programs have limited support for transparencies in TIF files.
JPG and GIF are low-resolution file formats that are well suited for on-screen use. (IE: Web, Powerpoint, etc.) These are also raster graphics and cannot be enlarged. These formats are useful for when file size is a consideration. For the UCCS Logo, GIF is used for the minimum size, JPG for the medium and large sizes.
EPS and PDF are vector-based file formats that is compatible with most desktop publishing and graphic design programs. These files are vector graphics and can be enlarged or reduced without compromising quality. It is recommended that you use EPS or PDF files if possible.
Adobe Illustrator (Ai) and Adobe Photoshop (PSD) files are high quality, scaleable, and fully editable. These are vector graphics and can be enlarged or reduced without loss in quality. These are reccommended for expert use only.
The files for the UCCS logo are namded using a five-part system. The system looks like this:
uccslogo-treatment-size-colormode.filetype
For example, uccslogo-fc-large-rgb.jpg is the UCCS logo, in full color (fc), large, in RBG color mode, as a jpeg.
| Treatment |
Size |
Color Modes |
File Types |
FC: Full Color FCR: Full Color Reverse GS: Greyscale GSR: Greyscale Reverse 1C: Single Color |
Minimum Medium Large |
RGB (On Screen) CMYK (Print) |
See File Format explanations above. |
Downloads created for a specific use will be named more simply. For example: the UCCS Logo built specifically for email signatures is named uccslogo-signature.gif. (Available on the Downloads page.)
Downloads of the official UCCS logo artwork are available on the Official UCCS Logo Downloads page. Each treatment is available in a variety of file formats.
