MINUTES from 23 February 2001

ACTION ITEM: Please seek individuals to participate in our upcomming focus groups. Complete the Excel spreadsheet and email back to Jere.

The ITC met in Dwire 177 and participated in the first IT focus group exercise. This was facilitated by Morgan Sheppard and Ben Martz from the College of Business. We used the collaborative focus group software called GroupWare and the consensus was that this was a great way to do focus groups. In approximately 90 minutes, we generated over 200 comments, voted twice on the 15 issues, and ranked those campus priorities that needed automatic IT budgeting. Finally, the software automatically generates a complete report. This report is available at http://www.uccs.edu/~jhaefner/itcouncil/information/info.htm. As an example, here is how the ITC representatives ranked the 15 IT issues:
138 1. IT staff
115 2. Upgrade computer network
113 3. Network security
108 4. IT help desk
101 5. Web development support.
91 6. Build more smart classrooms
87 7. Obsolete computer replacement
85 8. Campus software site licenses
78 9. Computer hardware maintenance
65 10. Dial up connections
58 11. Distance education
54 12. Email
52 13. Access to administrative information
40 14. Wireless access
15 15. Student notebook computers
Next we voted for the top three - we could vote only for three of these 15 issues:
7 1. IT staff
5 2. Upgrade computer network
4 3. Network security
3 4. Web development support.
3 5. Obsolete computer replacement
3 6. Build more smart classrooms
2 7. Computer hardware maintenance
1 8. Campus software site licenses
1 9. Dial up connections
1 10. IT help desk
0 11. Email
0 12. Wireless access
0 13. Access to administrative information
0 14. Distance education
0 15. Student notebook computers

In the end, we felt this would be extremely useful.

The ITC will meet back in its usual meeting place, EPC 304C, on Friday, 9 March at 9 am.
