Minutes from September 14, 2001

Given the events of this past week, it is not surprising that we had a small
turnout for today's ITC meeting. Attending were Mary Kunkel, Jackie Crouch,
Barb Gaddis, Ed Chow, Leslie Manning, Jerry Wilson and Jeremy Haefner.

I think we'll need to establish quorum guidelines. I will raise this issue
next meeting.

We have new members to welcome: Tim Hurlbert and Ken Grant are student
representatives, Kathy Andrus is the LAS representative, and Glen Carlsrud
is the facilities representative.

1) Strategic plans. We agreed to defer any final decision for the plans
until the October meeting. This will give members more time to digest the
material. The plans can be found at http://www.uccs.edu/~jhaefner/itcouncil/

PLEASE provide input to me so I can incorporate changes and please try to
attend October's meeting so we can press on with the planning process. I do
want to tackle some important issues this year but we must have the plan as
a structure.

2) We exchanged information concerning what units are doing with regard to
IT. Beth El is rolling out a lot of courses for distance education. This led
to a discussion of WebCT and eCollege and a need for a campus coordinator
for eLearning. The Excel centers are active with online tutoring, hybrid and
distance education courses. The library has expanded their services as noted
in their August letter.

3) Subcommittees. We will form subcommittees for Policies, Administrative
computing issues, and Academic Computing Issues. To begin, Jere will chair
the policy and academic subcommittees and Jerry will chair the
administrative subcommittee. WE NEED PEOPLE TO HELP SERVE ON THESE
COMMITTEES - most of the work can be done via email but occasional meetings
will be necessary. If a topic is particularly interesting to you, please
volunteer. We can also solicit colleagues outside the ITC to help serve.
Here are some of the issues we will be considering: Core/Extended service
policies, email and web policies, Web server support issues, smart classroom
usage, and knowledge management initiative, and others.

I am working with the Faculty Assembly to create an Academic Computing
Policy Committee that consists of faculty.

THE NEXT MEETING IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12 AT 9 AM IN EPC 304C. Please attend this meeting as we will move forward on the plans and begin to tackle some
important issues.
