Minutes from ITC meeting on 14 December 2001

The IT Council met today for its monthly meeting. The next meeting will be Friday, January 11 at 9 am in EPC 304C.

MINUTES
1) Policy Subcommittee update: The policy subcommittee has met once and will meet next week. The group is looking at our current Responsible Use policy and is considering making recommendations for changes. In addition, the committee is looking at making recommendations about an information/administrative email list that would be moderated. I expect that the subcommittee will make recommendations at the next ITC meeting in January.

The ITC also charged the subcommittee to consider a policy similar to the one that CU Boulder recently adopted, namely making email an official form of communication for our campus.

2) Campus web strategy. The ITC decided to form an ad hoc taskforce that will recommend a web strategy for our campus. The taskforce will be cross-representational and will have a charge to make a recommendation by the end of spring semester if possible. While the goal includes streamlining the number of platforms that IT supports so that our resources can be effectively used, the overall goal is to choose a strategy that best supports the needs of the campus. Please send Jere your recommendations for the specific charge but consider that we are currently trying to support a UNIX web server, a Microsoft/FrontPage extensions web server, Cyberclass, and WebCT. Further, eCollege, LearnLinc, eEducation, all of which are learning management systems, are used on campus.

Members of the ITC are asked to submit three names of people who would be willing to work on this important taskforce. Finally, please recommend a chair for this group.

3) Virus software update : Jerry gave the ITC an update on how the campus-wide virus protection software will be deployed during the spring. IT will be communicating with the campus as the project proceeds.
