The IT Council met Friday, 11 May for the last time during AY 00-01. We will
resume in August or September. These are the minutes from Friday's meeting.

MINUTES
1) Details: Mary Kunkle from Facilities officially joins the ITC.

2) We spent 40 minutes exchanging information about what the various units
are doing with technology this summer. Here's a brief synopsis: Facilities,
together with public safety and others, will be setting up a management
system called Archibus. Besides scheduling, this system which is based on
GIS technology, handles telecom and other management functions. Jere will
set up a demo of this system in the summer and one for the ITC later in the
fall.

****Chair's note: This caught the ITC off-guard as we have not heard of any
of this. Since communication is one of the best uses of the ITC, it is
important that we work hard to bring topics and issues to the ITC - our
perspective is unique on campus as we have become very informed on
technology issues. Let's try to run things past the ITC in the future.
Thanks!****

The Excel centers will be developing an online organic chemistry course,
updating new computer labs and looking to establish online tutoring in the
Science LC. (Online tutoring in the math LC has been ongoing for 1 year
now.)

C of Business will launch their Online IS program in the fall and they are
creating their 3rd lab which will be open to students in C of B. They now
have a Cisco, Oracle and now an open lab.

Beth El will have most of their Masters curriculum online by the fall ...
currently they are working to adapt their RN to BSN program online. Things
look good for a joint Beth El Israel DE venture for fall 2002.

The Teaching and Learning Center will be offering "Adapting your course for
online learning" course over the summer. This is an online course for
instructors wishing to learn about putting courses online. More details are
available on the web at web.uccs.edu/tlc

The Library is anticipating the opening of the Assisted Technology Lab. The
ITC wants to demo this in the fall. See Sue B. The Library continues to add
electronic databases, etc. This fall they will be reviewing contracts for
many of them.

LAS has extended an offer for a position in fine arts digital media.

EAS: the new building will mean new labs and teaching classrooms. CS is
looking at putting courses online and a degree program in IS security.

C of Ed is actively pursuing a DE presence with "Troops to teachers" and
other entreprenurial activities.

Student Success is developing statistics on retention, access db on
scholarship.

IT Services is working on programs for the studio including a moble studio
portion, student news, several ITS proposals were funded by the Student
technology fee (www.uccs.edu/~stf) including web-based email. The modem pool
should be updated very soon, a security analysis will be done over the
summer, satallite farm, library multimedia lab, etc....

3) We spent about 30 minutes talking about the Goals draft that Jere
submitted. Barney brought up the need to include unit and individual IT
responsibility. Basically, there seemed to be consensus but if you have
concerns please email Jere. The latest version is on the web at
www.uccs.edu/~jhaefner/itcouncil

4) We spoke about how the ITC should be organized next year: The ITC should
meet once a month but should have 2-3 subcommittees: Instructional
Technology (needs to look at learning management systems in the fall again),
Administrative Technology, and a Policies committee. The existing Academic
Computing and Policies committee (a Faculty assembly committee) needs to be
restructured or rethought. Perhaps it could form the basis of the
Instructional Technology committee. This could not be a faculty-only and
would include students and staff. Jere will meet with Don Morley to discuss
this.

5) The IT Strategic Plan Plan: Jere and Jerry will draft a document based
on: IT inventory, needs, goals, etc that we've developed. We will email this
out for comment in early June. Our target VCAA delivery date is Friday, June
14th.

6) Please email Jere with any comments, etc.
