Faculty Representative Assembly President's Report October 10, 2003

The Faculty Assembly Executive Team had a meeting with the Chancellor, VCAA, and the Research Council to hear a presentation on the Research Initiative. The Research Council is a team of faculty members who were charged with developing a research initiative that suggests ways that research can be supported on our campus and can help us to achieve our new role and mission. That presentation will be made at the Faculty Assembly meeting on October 10, 2003. Dean's Council is concerned with developing an on-line scholarly report. I have asked the Personnel and Benefits committee to provide feedback on this issue, including issues concerning the revision of the scholarly report form, type of information that should be included, and privacy issues around having an on-line version.

Last year Faculty Assembly voted to form a committee to propose a campus policy concerning the promotion from instructor to senior instructor. I have formed a task force to look at this issue that includes the Personnel and Benefits committee, non-tenured track faculty, and an associate Dean.

The full senate of system-wide faculty council will have a meeting October 21, 2003, 123 in Denver. The President will be speaking to the senate. There will also be a presentation about the Faculty Housing Assistance Program by Treasurer Judy Van Gorden. The meeting will be held in the Lawrence Street Center, 380 Lawrence St., across Lawrence from the Dravo building. Room 360 is the LaSalle conference room on the third floor.

I am still trying to fill committee positions. I need members for Personnel and Benefits, Academic Computing Policy Committee, Campus Activities Board, and Bookstore Advisory. We are also trying to update the Faculty Assembly web page, so please send me a list of your committee members. If you need members, let me know.
