In December, representatives from the Women's Committee met to award the committee's Fall Mini-Grants. $1, 825 in grants were awarded to five applicants, whose projects are listed below.
Fall 2001 Mini- Grants Awarded:
1. Valerie A. Brodar, Asst. Prof., Electronic and Time-based Media, VAPA:
$300., for the purchase of videos by multicultural contemporary women
artists, to be used in courses.
2. Lesley Ginsberg, Asst. Prof., English: $500., to participate as a
discussant at the Spring meeting of the Nineteenth-Century American
Women Writers Study Group, Northeastern U., Boston, MA.
3. Jeffrey Rubin-Dorsky, Prof., English: $300, author lunches with
Faculty for six contmeporary American women authors, in association with his
Spring 2002 course, "Recent American Women's Fiction: First Efforts."

4. Daniel L. Seagl, Assoc. Prof., Psychology: $250., for an MA-level Research
Assistant, to assist with a research project focussing on gender.
Project Title: "Gender differences in coping, emotional distress, suicidal
thinking, and reasons for living among older adults.
5. Beverly A. Snyder, Assoc. Prof., Counseling an Human Services, College of
Education: $500., travel and training for certification in "Eye Movement
Desensitization Reprocessing," to assist female victims of domestic violence.
In January, Lesley Ginsberg began chairing the committee, filling in for Susan Taylor, who is on leave Spring 2002.
On 30 January 2002, with Faculty Minority Affairs Cmte., The Women's Committee sponsored a presentation, Positioning Women and Faculty of Color in the 21st Century: Strategies and New Directions by Dr. Nancy Rusty Barcelo the Associate VP for Multicultural Affairs and Academic Affairs, University of Minnesota12:00pm-2:00pm, Breckenridge 5113.
Upcoming events in February include the visiting women writers series (events on 11 Feb. and 25 Feb., UC 116, 4:30-6:00pm), and the Spring 2002 Film series, 28 Feb. (Like Water for Chocolate).
