Faculty Assembly

   EPUS Report
    May 10, 2002

1. EPUS has reviewed the proposed Opportunity Hire Policy and made
suggestions for revisions. Those suggestions have been incorporated into
the present draft of the document; but the EPUS Committee has not had a chance
to vote on the new draft. Yesterday, however, I polled Committee members
on whether in this report EPUS recommends that the Faculty Representative
Assembly should endorse the policy. The members responding to my poll
unanimously responded to such a report by me. Two members, however,
expressed the following reservations. One member worried about the fiscal
aspects of the policy, wondering how such positions would be covered after
the first year of the hire. A second member favors the policy but only on the
condition that "Opportunity Hire dollars...not pay for preferred skin
colors."

2. EPUS has reviewed the Policy for the Recruitment of Research
Assistants and of Instructors and made suggestion for clarification of a
few points. The Committee has not yet been able to vote on the revised
draft.

2. Finally, EPUS has reviewed the Policy for Fair Computing at UCCS and
made suggestions for appropriate modifications. The revised document has
not yet been returned to the Committee for action.
