Report of the Women's Faculty Committee 05/00
The committee sponsored our annual end-of the year reception for women faculty and
lecturers last week in the Gallery of Contemporary Art. The event was well attended,
celebrated the recent promotions of numerous women faculty, and contributed to our goal of
faciliatating informal metoring networks among women faculty and lecturers. Finally, we
have
received and reviewed the applications for our Transforming the Curriculum Workshop this
summer. We have accepted 10 applicants to participate in the workshop series, and hired
two experienced faciliators from CSU. We were pleased with the strong interest expressed
by the many applicants, and hope to be able to secure funding to offer the workshop again
in future years. Workshop participants will transform an existing course or develop a new
course focused on gender and race. The Committee is also celebrating the new Parental
Leave Policy approved by the Regents last month. We have worked with th Faculty Council's
Committee on Women to develop this policy over the past three years. The new policy will
be available on the Regents web page, and guarantees parents a semester of leave at half
pay after the birth of a child, and specifies other alternative arrangements which can be
negotiated.
