REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT
=======================
It looks like the campus is coming to closure on unit merit and the core curriculum. The latter is now based on content requirements that each college can fulfill as it chooses, and the Rep Assembly will be voting on a motion to forward the proposal to the entire faculty for a vote.
I forwarded the motion passed at the previous rep assembly meeting on to the University Benefits Advisory Board (UBAB). Dick Bertrand, the UCCS rep to the UBAB, and I met with VCAF McDaniel to discuss strategies on the matter of getting back a campus benefits officer. At a minimum, we are asking for a single individual to serve as circuit rider that visits our campus 2-3 days per week.
The CCHE met last week, and as expected, voted to do away with financial aid to part time students, as well as imposing new requirements on the award process, both of which will significantly hurt the campus. More on this from VCSS Shockley if she attends.
The campus response to the Administrative Performance Appraisal was light: approximately 16%. Hopefully that is a sign of relative satisfaction. I met with the Chancellor to discuss hers and will be forwarding the results to the President soon. I just learned that we are supposed to put the results on the web to be accessible from campus only, and I'll be looking into the technical details of how to accomplish that.
I am personally very pleased with the responses provided by the chancellor and vice chancellors to the Organization Panel, and I fully support the proposed reorganization of the VCAA office, particularly the creation of three faculty fellows to coordinate the graduate school and sponsored research, Continuing Education, which as you know, is being dispersed into the colleges, and information technology. The reorganization requires no new funds. I also support the VCAA proposal for an Academic Planning Committee to advise him on campus-wide curriculum and academic program issues.
The Faculty Salary Enhancement Committee and the Organization Panel continue to work on their respective assignments. The UBAC will soon be making general budget recommendations to the Chancellor.
The Master Planning Committee continues to work on the questions posed by the CCHE, and meets with the staff next week. We still hope to get CCHE approval for the master plan this spring so we can pursue continued development of the campus.
Respectfully submitted,
Richard Blade, President
UCCS Faculty Assembly
