  1. Locating Diversity Programs on campus—We discussed the need for diversity programs to be located on campus so that they are highly visible and accessible to students, faculty, and administration. Since the campus is in such a state of flux it is important the these concerns be integrated into short-term and long-term plans for the campus. Kee will draft a letter to the Chancellor laying out these concerns. The letter will be circulate to Lynda Dickson, Andrea Herrera, and Marguerite Arai to see if they want to co-sign.
  2. Priorities for Spring semester—The committee discussed priorities for using remaining Faculty MAC funds for this academic year. We adopted these guidelines:
  3. $500 to support diversity speakers on campus ($200 for African American History and Culture at the Millenium Series)

$500 support for campus diversity summit—copying costs

$700 community connections program- Office of Multicultural Affairs

$500-1000 for Minority Organization Student Banquet

$800 for Diversity Research Support (Dula J. Espinosa and Kathleen will draft guidelines and suggest name for program)

    3. Meeting with Chancellor—Faculty MAC would like to establish a regular meeting schedule with the Chancellor to discuss diversity issues. The purpose of the meeting will be to acknowledge progress and to identify needs. Kee will try to schedule a meeting for the end of February. We can discuss further at our February meeting.

  4. Diversity in the Core Curriculum—Kee Warner will be draft a letter to be reviewed by FMAC members and sent to the core curriculum committee addressing the diversity component (final letter attached).
  5. CU Faculty of Color Committee Reception—The CU System Faculty of Color Committee is holding a reception on February 4th at St. Francis Center, Auraria Campus, CU Denver. Committee members are encouraged to attend. Hopefully, this will help strengthen the links among faculty on the various campuses.
  6. Report on Searches—The history department has hired an excellent candidate for their position in Latino and Latin American History. Cristina Jimenez will join the faculty in Fall 2000. Applications are being reviewed for the AVCAMA. The Languages and Cultures search may produce candidates that contribute to the ethnic diversity of our faculty.
  7. Reports from the Office of Multicultural Affairs—Marguerite Arai reported that the CU Colorado Springs diversity summitt will be held the week of April 10-14. Focus groups are being organized to learn about the racial climate of our campus. Students have been invited via Campus Activity Board Calendars. Copies of those notices will be sent to all committee members.
  8. Faculty Sponsor for the Black Student Union—The BSU still does not have a faculty sponsor. Dula J. Espinosa and Andrea Hererra offered to assume this role of a sponsor is not identifies. Kee suggested Gail Coulter from the School of Education and will ask her.
  9. Upcoming Events—Andrea Herrera suggested that we include a list of upcoming events with our minutes (see below).
  10. February Committee meeting—The next meeting will be on Friday, February 18, at 1:30 at the Office of Academic and Multicultural Affairs, Main Hall 128.
