Library Advisory Committee Report

1. The committee has met with Leslie Manning, Library Dean, and Rita Hug, the Head of Technical Services to design a process for revising the library allocation formula (the way in which campus units are allocated funds for library materials). The current formula was devised in 1986; however, a number of issues surround current use of the formula, among which are the following:
(a) it does not include use data
(b) does not allow for electronic resources
(c) does not include collection strengths and weaknesses
(d) does not include program strengths and weaknesses
(e) does not include research

2. The Library Advisory Committee will work with the library to revise the formula based on input from the various constituencies by the end of spring semester, 2000.

3. The first step in the process is a series of open forums to discuss the issues and seek input. All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to participate in one of the forums:
