SYSTEM-WIDE EPUS MOTIONS TO FACULTY COUNCIL

All three EPUS motions bclow were passed yesterday at faculty council.
EPUS approvcd the following three motions to bring to Faculty Council at their May 11th
meeting.
1. EPUS recommends to Faculty Council that they approve the administrative draft policy
statement entitled "Professor-in-residence" with the following modifications:
a) Vice President Groth stated that he would change the title to
"Scholar-in-Residence" b ) The document would include a definite statement in
the document that this position would be governed by current policies for NTT Faculty c)
The document would be revised, if necessary, to include a statement to the effect that the
appointment process for this position is congruent with existing policies for NTT Faculty.
2. EPUS wishes to bring back to Faculty Council the tabled motion concerning Quality
Indicators as revised below.
Original [tabled] motion
"Recognizing that the Quality Indicator System is meant for institutional evaluation
and that it ought not to be used for individual faculty evaluations, EPUS moves that
Faculty Council recommend that the President direct that CCHE's Quality Indicator System
materials not be used in any re-appointment, promotion, tenure, or post-tenurc
review." Revised motion [revisions underlined] "Recognizing that aggregate
measures of institutional performance (e.g., the current Quality Indicator System) are
meant for institutional evaluation and, consequently, that these measures ought not be
used for individual faculty evaluations, EPUS moves that Faculty Council recommend that
these measures (e.g., the current Quality Indicator System) not be used in any
re-appointment, promotion, tenure, post-tenure review or annual evaluation of individual
faculty ."
3. EPUS recommends that Faculty Council approve the draft revision of 4/24/00 to faculty
handbook by Office of Vice President for Academic Affairs detailing FCQ objectives and
principles with the following three modifications. modify the first sentence following
" I.
Improve instruction and student learning to rcad "This goal is to be achieved through
the use of a formative (diagnostic) assessment by mid-semester, which should....";
a) add the words "diagnostic evaluation" in parentheses following the title of
the first ob.jective; and b) add the words "summative evaluation" in parentheses
following the titles of the second and third objectives.
