The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Provost) available July 1, 2007.
UCCS is one of three campuses in the University of Colorado system, emphasizing a broad range of degree programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional programs in business, education, engineering, nursing, and public affairs. The campus, the fastest growing university in Colorado, enrolls about 7,600 students annually and offers 26 bachelorís degrees, 18 masterís, and three doctoral degrees. More than 600 faculty and 392 staff members support the campus. U.S. News and World Report ranked the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs seventh among top public western universities offering primarily masterís and bachelorís degrees.
The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Provost) is the chief academic officer of the university and is responsible for promoting a rich intellectual life, fostering student success, and creating an active learning environment in the classroom and beyond. One of three vice chancellors, the VCAA (Provost) serves as the campus leader in the absence of the Chancellor, and leads the collaborative efforts of the three vice chancellors and the chief operating officer in support of the academic and research mission of the university. UCCS aspires to be the number one regional research university in the United States, and the VCAA (Provost) will provide the lead as we implement that vision. The VCAA is responsible for the Universityís six colleges and schools (College of letters, Arts, and Sciences; College of Business; College of engineering and Applied Science; College of Education; Beth-El College of Nursing; Graduate School of Public affairs), the Kraemer Family Library, the Graduate School, Extended Studies, and a variety of institutes and centers. Working with the Chancellorís leadership team, the deans, faculty and staff, the VCAA will lead in the implementation of campus strategic goals, the articulation and advocacy of the campus academic mission, and student success. The VCAA (Provost) will possess strong leadership skills, as well as demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism, to quality teaching and learning, and to research and creative works.
Candidates for the position of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will possess an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree; a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service sufficient to warrant appointment at the rank of full professor; and a record of at least three years of successful leadership and administrative experience as head of a major academic unit or at the dean level.
Nestled at the base of Pikes Peak in the Rocky Mountains of southern Colorado, Colorado Springs is the second largest metropolitan area in the state, with about 500,000 residents. The strong local economy supports manufacturing, amateur sports, technology, and the military. At an elevation of 6,035 feet, the city provides scenic wealth and a mile climate (etc.etc. Ė may want to elaborate this section).
