Faculty Assembly President’s Report
Nov 12, 2004
At the Faculty Assembly meeting in Oct, the Research Council submitted seven policies that need Faculty Assembly Approval. The policies were discussed and sent to EPUS for review. If you have not looked at these policies, I would encourage you to look at them and provide feedback to the EPUS Committee or to me before they are voted on at a future Faculty Assembly meeting. The policies are part of the campus research initiative that aims to formalize the way the University will handle research related activities in accordance with federal, state, and Regents policies. These campus policies are extremely important to the moving the research agenda of UCCS forward. While it may change the “way we do everyday business”, the policies are intended to keep our good standing with outside funding agencies. Any feedback is welcome. The policies are located with October 2004 Faculty Assembly Minutes.
In the past month, I was at a presentation where the Office of Student Mulitcultural Affairs announced that it is currently looking for faculty mentors. According to Anthony Cordova, there is a shortage of faculty mentors for Student Minority Affairs Mentorship Program. If you are interested in helping out in this program please refer to this website to find out more about the program http://www.uccs.edu/mosaic/ Please encourage other faculty to consider mentoring in this program.
Another new program on campus for international students is the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Program. This program allow international student to work while or between semesters if the work is part of the program of study. There is more information coming on the International Students Service at http://www.uccs.edu/iss/
In the System Committee structure, the EPUS and LETTS (Learning, Educational Technology, Teaching, and Scholarship) committees are working to develop a policy on amorous relationships. While there may or may not have been a problem in your department, it is best to address this issue in a proactive way. As this committee develops and refines this policy, I will provide you with more information.
