The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Staff and Faculty Councils support the Silver & Gold (S & G) Record and its mission of gathering information and distributing university news to staff, faculty, and the campus community members of the University of Colorado. We believe that the Silver & Gold’s mission is important since it enables faculty and staff members to make informed judgments on campus and university issues relevant to their roles.
The Silver & Gold needs a stable, financial future. The University of Colorado must ensure that the Silver & Gold receives a proper budget to continue to fulfill its mission. The Silver &Gold has never recovered from the mid 1990s budget cuts and has had to rely on advertising revenue to pay staff costs and operating expenses. Rather than rely on being “bailed out” each spring, we believe that planning and budgeting for this information source would ensure the University readership a reliable information source. Advertising revenue could be a portion of the budget for emergency reserve and capital equipment, but not key to operating expenses.
The Faculty and Staff Councils urge the University of Colorado to adequately fund the Silver & Gold if it is to remain an effective avenue of communication for all campuses in the System. Providing adequate funding would alleviate the yearly concerns related to the Silver & Gold’s normal operations.
