WPC 10 Youth Leadership
Conference
Bringing together High School Aged Students from around
the country for three full days (April 2-4) of amazing
Workshops and Discussions that focus on Youth Pride,
Power and Leadership in Culture and Community.
The 2009 WPC youth Conference will be a powerful
and unforgettable event in your student’s life.
Concurrent with the WPC, we are offering a Youth Leadership
Conference for High School students. The YLC will include
workshops, performances, caucuses, and affinity groups specially
designed for youth leaders. Workshops will feature interactive
activities, film, spoken word, Theatre of the Oppressed techniques,
and small and large group discussions to address issues of heritage,
identity, language, isms, labels, power & privilege, teamwork, and
strategies for community action. Youth will also have the opportunity
to join the larger WPC conference and practice new leadership skills
in WPC workshops and activities.
Objective
To provide youth-friendly and youth-specific workshops, caucuses,
entertainment, and space that engage issues of white privilege, white
supremacy, and oppression within the larger structure of The White
Privilege Conference. The Youth Leadership Conference is geared for
youth of any ethnic background in grades 9-12 who are prepared to
seriously engage issues of race, racial identity, privilege, oppression,
community leadership and social change. Youth may register for
undergraduate academic credit for their participation and outside
work, which can be transferred to other colleges and Universities.

One-Day Option
For High school students unable to attend the three day Youth Leadership Conference
we will offer a one day alternative, The Youth Institute on Wednesday, April 1.
