Outstanding Teaching Award

  • Eligibility

All full-time resident tenure track faculty in at least their second year of teaching for the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at CU-Colorado Springs who have not previously won the award are eligible to apply for this award.

  • Award

The Teaching Award consists of a $500 stipend (before taxes) and a $500 increase in base pay (after annual salary increments are calculated).

  • Nomination Procedure

Nominations may be made by anyone, including the nominee.  Material that may be included with the nomination:

    1. A two-page (maximum) letter of nomination (required).

    2. Teaching evaluations for only the past two years (FCQ summaries and original response sheets) (required).

    3. A two-page (maximum) statement of teaching philosophy by the candidate (required).

    4. List of times the nominee is available for in-class visits by members of the Teaching Committee.  This needs to indicate all classes in the month following the submission deadline when the nominee's course offerings would be appropriate for visitation.  Those dates during which examinations, student presentations, movies, etc. will be conducted are generally inappropriate times for in-class viewing (required).

    5. Five additional (maximum) letters of support.

    6. Other supporting materials not to exceed one 3-inch binder.  These materials could include feedback from peer review of teaching, samples of syllabi, samples of other course handouts, samples of developed electronic media, etc.

    7. A sample of a video taped lecture.  This is not required but faculty who feel that their course offerings during the in-class visitation time are somehow atypical of their normal offerings (i.e., graduate level classes, labs, directed readings, etc.) may submit a lecture of what they consider to be a more typical sample of their course offerings.  This may be particularly appropriate for faculty who employ active learning instructional techniques.  In-class visitations will still be conducted on those submitting video tapes.

Please submit all materials to the Teaching Committee, LAS Dean's Office, Columbine Hall Rm 2025.
