Questions and Answers

  1. How do I get a job?

    Go to SEAN's Place: http://www.uccs.edu/stuemp/jobs/index.html
Both On and Off-Campus Jobs are posted there. The site is always being updated, so check back every couple of days for new jobs. All jobs are self-referral, so follow the indicated method of contacting each employer or department.

  2. Do I have to work the same job for more than one semester?

No. You can quit your job at any time (although it is encouraged that if you made a semester-long commitment that you try to keep it), if the job was a work-study job, though, you can’t get another work study job until the next semester. Please give your employer at least 2 weeks notice should you decide to quit.

  3. What do I need to do if I move?

Besides changing your address with Admissions and Records, you need to do a change of address form for Payroll records purposes. That form can be found at http://www.cu.edu/pbs/forms/downloads/Address_Phone_Email-Change-8.3.xls. Please return this completed form to the Office of Student Employment promptly.

  4. I’ve changed my name but my Advice of Deposit still has the old name, how do I change it?

The name on your advice of deposit is driven by the name on your social security card. To change the name on your social security card, contact social security at: http://www.ssa.gov/replace_sscard.html. Then bring your new social security card to the Personnel Office so that they can update their records, they can make the changes to all future advices.

  5. When are W-2’s (for taxes) mailed?

W-2s are mailed on January 31st for the previous year and will be sent to your mailing address on record on the Human Resources/Payroll system.

  6. What if I haven’t received my W-2?

You need to contact Payroll and Benefits in Boulder. Please contact them at PayrollBenefit.Services@cusys.edu or 1-877-627-1877.

  7. I am graduating, when is the last day that I can work?

You must stop working the last day of the pay period in which you graduate. See the work calendars at: http://www.uccs.edu/stuemp/calendar.shtml.

  8. How do I qualify for work-study?

By qualifying for financial aid and specifying a work preference on your FAFSA. See "How to Apply for Aid" at: http://www.uccs.edu/finaidse/howto.shtml.

  9. Can I work in summer even if I’m not taking classes?

If you meet the qualifications for the "Non-Enrolled Summer Work Study Program" and are selected, at random, as a part of the recipients for that summer. This is a small program so the odds of being selected are also small.

Student Hourly Positions (not work study): For purposes of summer employment (not to include work-study), a student may be employed without being enrolled if she or he was enrolled half-time in the spring semester (changed from full-time effective 5/28/00) and the student shows intent to return to UCCS the following fall semester. Non-enrolled and some part-time student employees will participate in a retirement program. For more information click to go the "Benefits" section of the Student Employment Handbook.

  10. When do I get paid?

Payments are made bi-weekly (on Fridays) via a direct deposit to your checking and/or savings account(s). See the payment calendar at: http://www.uccs.edu/stuemp/calendar.shtml.

  11. Why didn’t I get paid?

Lack of payment may be caused by a number of reasons-please contact Student Employment when this occurs and we will investigate the problem and assist you in receiving proper payment.

    Possible causes include:

    1. Hire/re-hire/re-appointment paperwork has not been completed/submitted by the employer and employee for the school year

    3. Employer did not enter hours onto the payroll system
