The Department of Political Science considers its primary mission to be undergraduate education, offering both service courses to the University and a well-rounded and challenging curriculum for majors. That curriculum should produce substantive breadth among its major, as well as provide them with opportunities and incentives for substantive depth in areas of particular interest. In addition, the curriculum should promote research and analytical skills among majors. The department believes that this primary mission is supported by a commitment to beyond-the-classroom scholarly work and to university and community service among its faculty.
