ENGL 950-1 How To Engage Your Students in Poetry

The English Department at UCCS collaborates with the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project to engage local high school teachers in a graduate-level exploration of pedagogies of poetry. This course builds on the 8-hour day of participatory learning provided by the Poetry Workshop, held on September 27, 2008, by requiring participants to demonstrate careful, independent research and curricula development that utilizes and implements the skills learned in the workshop. The course is designed to give credit and incentive to teachers to develop and implement the skills to which they were introduced in the workshop.

This one-day course takes place on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Colorado College campus. Taught by Prof. Kirsten Bartholomew Ortega.

Online registration for this course is open now. The tuition for this course is $60 (not including the workshop fee, paid to the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project). The Call Number is 00693. To register, review the Extended Studies enrollment instructions by clicking on the "Register" tab at left, under the "Student Resources" tab.

Payment is due at time of registration. Make sure to wait for your balance to appear in your online account before you make your payment. You may pay via credit card in your student account or by Electronic Funds Transfer; if you are not able to make your payment by either of these methods, please contact Pamela Mead Krull in the Bursar's Office at 719/262-3412 to set up a payment by another method. Do not wait to receive a bill; you may be charged late fees.

The withdrawal deadline for this course is Friday, October 10, 2008. If you are withdrawing before this date, you may withdraw in your student account and receive a full tuition refund. If you are withdrawing after this date, you must contact LAS Extended Studies at 719/262-4071 or lases@uccs.edu to complete withdrawal paperwork; you will not receive a full tuition refund if you withdraw after this date.
