Objectives:
Through the study of languages, students gain international understanding and communication skills. The languages and cultures program permits expanded career opportunities in commerce and finance, diplomacy, library science, education, social work, and scientific and technical research. Language study sharpens critical oral and written skills in English, gives a heightened sensitivity in regards to cultural differences, and broadens societal perspectives, which enriches the multi-ethnic universe.
♦ Spanish majors are encouraged to develop a broad perspective on the Hispanic experience. Students are further encouraged to spend a semester in an international Spanish speaking setting.
♦ Some basic and advanced language and survey of literature courses necessary for a minor concentration are offered in French and German. Latin, Japanese, Russian and American Sign Language courses are limited to basic and intermediate offerings.
♦ The degree offers graduates a background that is advantageous in many ways, including versatility, adaptability to differing socio-cultural environments, and the ability to articulate ideas clearly.
♦ Get more involved on campus! Join the Spanish Club to meet other students also interested in this field. Contact the ROAR office at roar@uccs.edu or 262-3470 for information.
